PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

oakmerelegal.com presents itself as the "National Crypto Helpline" and promises to recover funds lost to crypto fraud. The name suggests a law firm, but the page is an impersonation phishing site aimed at people who have already been scammed and are looking for help. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-17. As of 2026-10-19 the site is still online and its content is live.

How the scam works

This is a recovery scam. It targets victims a second time by posing as an official helpline or legal service that can trace and return stolen crypto. Schemes like this usually ask for an upfront payment, described as a legal, tracing, or release fee. They also collect identity documents, account details, and sometimes wallet recovery phrases. No funds are ever recovered. The victim loses whatever they pay and hands over personal data that can be reused for further fraud.

Evidence

Seven of 91 VirusTotal engines flag the domain as of 2026-09-29: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky and SOCRadar. That is a modest count, but it includes several major vendors. Wallet-focused blocklists back the classification too, with MetaMask and SEAL listing it alongside PhishDestroy. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have tracked it independently.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-09-09, just eight days before PhishDestroy detected it. That is typical of short-lived fraud domains set up for a single campaign. It is hosted on DigitalOcean, LLC in the United States. Its free Let's Encrypt certificate gives it the browser padlock, which proves nothing about who runs the site.

What to do

Do not pay any fee to this site or anyone who contacted you on its behalf. Legitimate recovery never requires upfront payment to unlock funds. If you already paid, contact your bank or payment provider right away and report the transaction to police and your national fraud reporting service. If you sent ID documents, watch for identity misuse and consider a credit freeze. If you shared a wallet recovery phrase, move your remaining assets to a new wallet immediately. Defenders should block the domain and watch for similar "legal" or "helpline" domains aimed at fraud victims.
