Overview

eastmerelegal.com poses as a legal or official support service under the banner "National Crypto Helpline — Recover Funds Lost to Crypto Fraud." It targets people who have already lost money to crypto scams and are searching for a way to get it back. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-17. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online with its content live.

How the scam works

This is a recovery scam, a second-wave fraud aimed at existing victims. The page borrows the language of a national helpline and a law firm to suggest authority. Visitors are invited to file a case. The operators then typically promise to trace and reclaim the stolen crypto, and ask for upfront charges billed as legal fees, tracing costs, taxes or release payments. They may also request identity documents, wallet details or remote access to the victim's device. No funds are ever recovered. The victim loses whatever they pay and may hand over personal data that gets reused in further fraud.

Evidence

Nine of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain on 2026-09-29. The detecting vendors include alphaMountain.ai, Bfore.Ai PreCrime, CRDF, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and Kaspersky. The count is modest, but these are independent vendors reaching the same verdict. Spamhaus lists it in its DBL as phishing. MetaMask and SEAL block it alongside PhishDestroy, and four AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference it, so the domain is tracked across several intelligence communities.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-05 through Spaceship, Inc. It was already being flagged twelve days later, a fast turnaround that is typical of throwaway domains spun up for a single campaign. The site runs on DigitalOcean cloud hosting in the United States. Its padlock comes from a free Let's Encrypt certificate, which encrypts the connection but says nothing about who runs the site.

What to do

Do not pay any fee, tax or deposit this site or its contacts request. Paying once usually triggers demands for more. If you already paid, contact your bank or card issuer at once to dispute the charge, and report the loss to your national police or fraud reporting authority. Genuine help comes from those authorities, not from services that cold-pitch recovery. If you sent ID documents, watch for identity misuse and consider a credit freeze. If you installed remote-access software at their request, uninstall it and change the passwords on your email, banking and exchange accounts, enabling 2FA where available. Defenders should block the domain and watch for lookalike recovery sites using similar helpline or law-firm branding.
