How the scam works

Its page title is 'National Crypto Helpline — Recover Funds Lost to Crypto Fraud'. Recovery scams like this find victims who are searching for help after a loss. They pose as an official helpline or legal counsel and claim the stolen funds can be traced and returned. The victim is then asked for upfront 'recovery', 'legal' or 'tax' fees. Many of these schemes also collect identity documents, wallet details or remote access to the victim's computer. The money paid is never returned, and someone already defrauded loses a second time.

Evidence

On 2026-09-29, 9 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including alphaMountain.ai, Bfore.Ai PreCrime, CRDF, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and Kaspersky. That is a modest count, but it comes from several unrelated vendors. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as phishing. Besides PhishDestroy, it appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists, and four AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference it.

The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-09-05, only 12 days before PhishDestroy detected it. That is the typical pattern of a disposable domain set up for a single campaign. It is hosted on DigitalOcean, LLC at 137.184.215.29 in the US. Its Let's Encrypt certificate gives the site a browser padlock, which shows only that the connection is encrypted, not that the operator is legitimate.

What to do

Do not pay any fee to this site or to anyone who contacts you claiming to be from it. Genuine law enforcement and legitimate recovery services do not charge upfront to return stolen crypto. If you sent ID documents, watch for identity misuse and alert your bank. If you installed remote-access software at their request, remove it and change your passwords from a clean device. If you shared a seed phrase, move any remaining funds to a new wallet immediately. Report payments to your local police and national fraud reporting service. Defenders should block the domain and its IP and warn fraud-victim support channels about this lure.
