PhishDestroy classifies it as an impersonation phishing page aimed at people who have already been defrauded and are searching for help. We first saw it on 2026-09-17, and the site was still alive with its content online as of 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
This is a recovery scam. It targets people who have already lost money to crypto fraud. The site borrows the authority of an official-sounding helpline and a legal practice to convince victims their stolen coins can be traced and returned. In schemes like this, the "recovery" always requires an upfront payment first, such as an investigation fee, a legal retainer, a tax or an unlocking charge. The fees keep growing until the victim stops paying. Victims may also be asked for identity documents, exchange logins or wallet seed phrases, which exposes them to theft a second time.
Evidence
Seven of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain at the 2026-09-29 check: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky and SOCRadar. That count is modest, but the vendors are independent of one another and include major names. MetaMask and SEAL list the domain alongside PhishDestroy, so wallet users and the crypto security community already treat it as hostile. Four AlienVault OTX threat pulses also reference it.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-09-09, just eight days before we detected it. That short gap is typical of sites built for a single campaign rather than a real practice with a history. The site runs on DigitalOcean, LLC cloud hosting in the US. The padlock comes from a free Let's Encrypt certificate, which only encrypts the connection and says nothing about who runs the site.
What to do
Do not send any fee, deposit or "retainer" to this site or to anyone who contacted you on its behalf. Genuine recovery services do not demand upfront crypto payments to release funds. If you already paid, stop all further payments and keep every message and transaction ID. Report the losses to your bank and to the police or national fraud reporting service. If you shared a seed phrase, move any remaining assets to a newly created wallet immediately. If you shared exchange credentials, change the password, reset 2FA and contact the exchange. Expect follow-up approaches from other fake "agencies" and ignore them. Security teams should block the domain and watch for lookalike law-firm and helpline domains targeting scam victims.
