Overview

clearmontlegal.com is an impersonation phishing page that calls itself the "National Crypto Helpline" and offers, in Russian, to return money lost to crypto scams. Its targets are people who have already been defrauded. The domain name suggests a law firm, which makes the offer look official. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-09-17, and the site was still online and serving its content on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The page title translates to "Return of funds after crypto fraud." That is the classic recovery-scam pitch: a fake helpline or legal team claims it can trace and reclaim stolen crypto. These schemes typically ask victims for upfront payments described as legal, investigation or release fees. They may also request wallet access, seed phrases or identity documents. No money is ever recovered, so the victim loses a second round of funds and often hands over personal data that can be used for further targeting.

Evidence

On 2026-09-29, 7 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky and SOCRadar. That is a minority of engines, but the vendors are independent of each other and agree on the verdict. MetaMask and SEAL list the domain alongside PhishDestroy, so wallet users relying on those protections should see a warning. The domain also appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which shows that other researchers are tracking it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-09-09, only eight days before PhishDestroy detected it. That short gap is typical of freshly built scam sites. It is hosted on DigitalOcean, LLC servers in the United States. The Let's Encrypt certificate gives it a browser padlock, which only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about who runs the site.

What to do

Do not pay any "recovery," legal or release fee to this site or to anyone who contacted you on its behalf. Genuine recovery does not work through upfront payments to an unsolicited helpline. If you already paid, report the transaction to your bank, payment provider or exchange immediately and file a report with your national police or fraud center. If you shared ID documents or a seed phrase, treat them as compromised: move any remaining crypto to a new wallet and watch for identity misuse. Defenders should block the domain and warn known scam victims, because recovery scams deliberately seek out people who were already defrauded.
