Passphrase Generator (BIP39 Words)

Runs locally

Use Passphrase Generator (BIP39 Words)

What it does

Generate diceware-style passphrases from the 2048-word BIP39 English wordlist. Each word adds 11 bits of entropy, so the default six words give 66 bits.

It runs entirely in your browser: nothing you enter is uploaded.

Example

Default settings

Input
6 words, space separator, 5 passphrases, no capitals
What the output looks like
Five passphrases of six lowercase words joined by spaces, such as word word word word word word.
Real ones are generated in your browser from the word list with crypto.getRandomValues; none is printed on this page, because a published passphrase is not secret.

Gives five passphrases of six random words each, 66 bits per passphrase; choose 8 words for 88 bits.

FAQ

How strong is a passphrase from this page?

Words are picked with crypto.getRandomValues from 2048 words, so each adds exactly 11 bits: 4 words give 44 bits, 6 give 66 and 8 give 88. Capitalising the first letter or changing the separator adds almost nothing, because an attacker can try those variants.

Is this a crypto wallet seed phrase?

No. The words come from the BIP39 list, but there is no checksum and the result is not a valid wallet mnemonic, so use it only as a password. Never type a real seed phrase into any website, including this one.

Are the passphrases sent anywhere?

No. The wordlist is part of this page and the passphrases are generated in your browser; nothing is uploaded or stored.
