PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

claudeess.com presents itself as an official download page for Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, under the title "Download Claude | Claude by Anthropic". It targets people searching for the Claude app, who may not notice the extra letters in the domain. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-13, one day after registration. On 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content.

How the scam works

Fake download pages borrow a trusted brand to get visitors to run a file or hand over details. Here the title promises a Claude download, so the page's job is to make the visitor treat whatever it offers as the genuine Anthropic app. Installers delivered this way can carry information-stealing or remote-access malware. That puts saved browser passwords, session cookies and any crypto wallets on the machine at risk, along with any credentials typed into the page.

Evidence

On 2026-10-17, 11 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. Detections included alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, Fortinet, G-Data, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky and LevelBlue, a spread of independent vendors rather than a single outlier. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognised Anthropic branding on it. The domain also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy, and Spamhaus DBL lists it as spam. Four AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-12 through OwnRegistrar, Inc. and was already in use the next day. That one-day gap fits a site built for a short, fast campaign rather than a legitimate project. It is hosted in the Netherlands on the Omegatech LTD network (OMEGATECH-AS, IP 158.94.209.113). Its free Let's Encrypt certificate gives the padlock icon but does not show who runs the site.

What to do

If you downloaded anything from claudeess.com, delete it unopened. If you already ran it, treat the computer as compromised and scan it or reinstall the system. Then change your passwords from a clean device, sign out of active sessions, and turn on two-factor authentication. Move any crypto held in wallets on that machine to a fresh wallet created on a clean device. Get Claude only through Anthropic's official channels. Defenders should block the domain and its hosting IP, and search proxy and endpoint logs for downloads or credential submissions tied to it.
