basedfoundation.lol imitated a Based Foundation governance page under the title "Based Rewards Proposal | Eligible Voters Receive Rewards". It targeted token holders in the Based community who might expect a vote or reward claim. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-09-27, a day after registration. The site has been offline since 2026-09-30, and its DNS was still inactive when we last checked on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
The page posed as an official proposal and promised that "eligible voters" would receive rewards. That framing gives a visitor a reason to connect a wallet and approve whatever request appears. In schemes of this type, the "vote" or "claim" signature is really a token approval, a permit or a transfer. Once it is signed, the operator can move the victim's tokens or NFTs. Real governance votes never require you to approve spending of your assets.
Evidence
Six of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-09-29: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and Sophos. That count is modest, but several wallet-security blocklists agree. MetaMask, ScamSniffer and SEAL list it alongside PhishDestroy, so wallet users would get warnings from the tools they use to sign transactions. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2026-09-26 through Eranet International Limited and was being tracked by the next day. It was live for only about four days in total, a throwaway pattern typical of short reward-claim campaigns. It sat behind Cloudflare, Inc., which reports a Canadian location, so the address shows the Cloudflare edge rather than the origin server. The cheap .lol domain and a name built on "foundation" both suggest a disposable lookalike.
What to do
If you connected a wallet or signed anything on this page, open a token-approval checker and revoke any permissions you do not recognise. Then move the remaining assets to a fresh wallet. If you entered a seed phrase, treat that wallet as fully compromised and move everything at once. Confirm governance proposals only through the project's official channels, and be wary of any vote that promises rewards. Defenders should block the domain and watch for new Based-themed lookalikes registered in the same quick-turnaround way.
