DNS Record Types Reference
Use DNS Record Types Reference
What it does
A searchable table of 18 common DNS record types with a one-line explanation of each, including the TXT-based SPF and DMARC policies used to check email senders.
It runs entirely in your browser: nothing you enter is uploaded.
Example
Records used for email checks
TXTTYPE DESCRIPTION
TXT Text records (SPF, DKIM, verification)
SPF Sender Policy Framework (deprecated, use TXT)
DMARC via TXT — email authentication policyFilters the table to TXT, SPF and DMARC: SPF and DMARC policies are published as TXT records, which is where email authentication checks look.
FAQ
Which record types matter when checking a phishing domain?
A and AAAA show where the site is hosted, NS shows the DNS provider, MX shows who receives its mail, and TXT holds SPF and DMARC policies. A CNAME can reveal the hosting platform behind a subdomain.
Is the table complete?
No, it lists 18 common entries; types such as HTTPS, SVCB and CERT are missing. The separate SPF record type is obsolete (publish SPF in TXT), and DMARC is not a record type at all but a TXT record at _dmarc.example.com.
Does this page query DNS?
No, it is a static reference and nothing leaves your browser. To see a domain's live records, use DNS over HTTPS Lookup.
