Canonical Tag Builder

Runs locally

Use Canonical Tag Builder

What it does

Generate the rel=canonical link element that tells search engines which URL is the main version of a page.

It runs entirely in your browser: nothing you enter is uploaded.

Example

Preferred product URL

Input
https://example.com/products/blue-widget
Output (captured 2026-10-20)
<link rel="canonical" href="https://example.com/products/blue-widget">

A link tag with rel="canonical" and href="https://example.com/products/blue-widget", ready for the head of the page.

FAQ

When does a page need a canonical tag?

When the same content is reachable at several URLs, for example with tracking parameters, with and without www, or over http and https. Put the tag on each duplicate, pointing to the URL you want indexed; a self-referencing canonical on that main page is fine too.

Does the tool check the URL?

No. It wraps whatever you type in the tag. Use an absolute https:// URL with the exact host, path and trailing slash you want indexed, and keep in mind that search engines treat the canonical as a strong hint, not a rule.

Is the URL sent anywhere?

No. The tag is built in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.
