PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

tether-gold.online is a crypto drainer site that impersonates Tether Gold, the tokenized gold product associated with the Tether brand, to lure holders of XAUT or related assets. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-26, and as of 2026-10-18 the site remains fully live with active content. The domain was registered on 2026-09-20, meaning it went up nearly a month after we first detected its presence, suggesting early infrastructure staging before the final domain was locked in.

How the scam works

Sites of this type present a convincing replica of a legitimate Tether Gold interface, prompting visitors to connect their cryptocurrency wallet to claim tokens, stake assets, or access a supposed account. The moment a wallet is connected and the user signs a transaction or approves a contract interaction, a drainer script silently transfers tokens and any other approved assets out of the wallet to attacker-controlled addresses. The victim loses funds instantly and irreversibly. The current page title shows a 403 Forbidden response, which conflicts with the live-content status our checks recorded; this may reflect access controls on certain paths rather than the drainer being offline.
