Overview

steamrpi.com uses Steam branding to pull in players hunting for free games. Its page title reads "STEAMRIP » Free Pre-installed Steam Games", and the domain itself swaps two letters of the name it displays. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-07. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving content.

How the scam works

The title presents a download portal for pre-installed games, not Steam's own store, while we classify the site as Steam impersonation. Sites like this use a familiar gaming name and the promise of free titles to make visitors trust what they click. The usual losses are a hijacked Steam account, its inventory and wallet balance, once a visitor enters login details on a lookalike sign-in prompt. A visitor can also end up running a downloaded file that steals saved browser passwords and session cookies.

Evidence

On 2026-10-19, 7 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar, Sophos and VIPRE. That is a minority of engines, but several of them are mainstream web filters, so many protected users will already see a warning. Spamhaus lists the domain on its DBL as spam. It also appears in 2 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have independently tracked it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-29 through NICENIC INTERNATIONAL GROUP CO., LIMITED, just eight days before PhishDestroy detected it. A domain that goes live this soon after registration is typical of short-lived lure sites. Traffic runs through Cloudflare, Inc. with a Canadian address, which hides the server that actually hosts the content.

What to do

If you signed in to anything through this site, change your Steam password from the official client right away. Then check Steam Guard settings, deauthorize all other devices and look over your trade and market history for transfers you did not make. If you downloaded and ran anything from it, treat the computer as compromised: run a full malware scan. After the scan, change passwords for browser-saved accounts from a clean device and sign out of all active sessions. Defenders should block steamrpi.com at DNS and the web proxy and search logs for past visits. They should also warn gaming communities and Discord servers where links like this tend to spread.
