PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

gfo-coin.com was a phishing site that carried the page title "GFO-X" and borrowed that crypto trading brand to win the trust of traders and wallet holders. PhishDestroy flagged it on 2026-09-15, the same day the domain was registered. The site has been offline since 2026-09-22 and was still unreachable when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages like this copy the look and name of a real platform, here GFO-X, and use a lookalike domain that adds "coin" to make the address seem official. Visitors are asked to sign in, verify an account or connect a wallet. Anything typed in, such as email, password or one-time codes, goes straight to the operators. Wallet prompts can request signatures or token approvals that let them move funds out. The victim's losses can include account access, personal data and crypto assets.

Evidence

Within two days, 12 of 89 VirusTotal engines marked the domain malicious, including Google Safe Browsing, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, CRDF, alphaMountain.ai, Gridinsoft and LevelBlue. Spamhaus lists it in its domain blocklist under the phishing category. MetaMask and the SEAL security alliance also block it alongside PhishDestroy, so wallet users were warned at the point of connection. Four AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference the domain.

Infrastructure

The domain went from registration to detection in under a day and stayed up for about a week, a typical pattern for throwaway phishing domains. It was registered through Cloudflare, Inc. and served from Cloudflare's network, which places the origin server behind a proxy, with a Canadian address shown for the edge IP. Its Let's Encrypt certificate gave it a padlock in the browser, which says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

If you entered credentials on this site, change that password everywhere you reused it, reset two-factor authentication, and check the real GFO-X account for unfamiliar sessions or changes. If you connected a wallet or signed anything, use a token-approval checker to revoke permissions you do not recognize. Move remaining funds to a fresh wallet if you may have exposed a seed phrase. Always reach trading platforms through bookmarked addresses, never through links in ads or messages. Security teams should block the domain and look for similar "brand-plus-coin" registrations targeting the same name.
