PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

equiteesecure.com.ng is an impersonation phishing site. Its name pairs a misspelled "Equitee" with "secure" to suggest a legitimate, protected service, which is aimed at people who trust that kind of branding. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-20. As of 2026-10-19 the domain is still online and serving content, so it remains an active risk.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages copy the name and look of a service the victim already uses. They then ask for login credentials, one-time codes, personal details or payments, and every one of those goes straight to the operators. A victim can lose account access, and with financial or crypto services, the money held there. The page title currently reads "406 Not Acceptable," a server error message, while our classification is impersonation phishing.

Evidence

Nine of 91 VirusTotal engines flag the domain as malicious, according to a scan on 2026-10-02. They include alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, Seclookup, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That is a modest count, but the vendors are independent of one another and they reach the same verdict. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL under the phishing category, which matters because many mail filters block messages linking to it on that basis. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses and on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through HostAfrica on 2026-08-04, about seven weeks before PhishDestroy detected it. The .com.ng suffix gives it a local Nigerian appearance, which can make the impersonation more convincing to regional users. It resolves to 188.114.96.3, an address located in the US. It uses a free, automatically issued Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the site is genuine.

What to do

If you entered a password on this site, change it on the real service right away, along with any other account that uses the same password. Then turn on or reset two-factor authentication. If you shared card or bank details, or sent a payment, contact your bank or provider to block the card and dispute the charge. Watch for follow-up messages that claim to come from the same brand. Defenders should block the domain and its IP at mail and web gateways, add it to internal threat feeds, and report it to HostAfrica and the .ng registry for takedown.
