PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

btcmixer.guide is an impersonation phishing page that trades on the Ledger brand to reach Bitcoin holders and Ledger hardware wallet owners. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-10-16. As of 2026-10-19 the site is still online and serving content. Its page title, "Bitcoin Mixer Guide: How Mixing Works and What the Ledger Still Shows," presents the site as an educational article on coin mixing, while we classify it as Ledger impersonation.

How the scam works

Ledger impersonation pages typically wrap a familiar brand in helpful-looking content, such as a guide, a privacy tip or a security warning, and then steer the reader toward a fake Ledger prompt. That prompt usually asks for the 24-word recovery phrase, offers a bogus Ledger Live download, or requests a "verification" step. Ledger never asks for a recovery phrase online. Anyone who types those words into a website hands over full control of the wallet, and the funds can be swept within minutes with no way to reverse the transfers.

Evidence

Independent detection is thin so far. On 2026-10-16, VirusTotal showed 1 of 92 engines flagging the domain, with SOCRadar as the only vendor. The domain appears in 4 AlienVault OTX pulses and is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist. A low engine count is common for newly registered phishing domains and does not indicate the site is safe.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-05 through Devexpanse Ltd d/b/a Regery.com, 41 days before PhishDestroy detected it. It resolves to 188.114.96.3 on AS13335 Cloudflare, Inc., in the United States, which means the origin server is hidden behind Cloudflare's proxy. Its TLS certificate was issued by Google Trust Services (WE1), so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

If you only browsed the page, close it and do not download or run anything it offered. If you entered a recovery phrase, treat that wallet as compromised. Set up a new Ledger seed on the device, and move any remaining funds to addresses from the new seed right away. If you installed software from the site, uninstall it, scan the machine, and get Ledger Live only through Ledger's official channels. Defenders should block btcmixer.guide at DNS and proxy level, watch for lookalike Ledger and mixer-themed domains, and report the site to Cloudflare and the registrar.
