PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

bandizip.app is an impersonation phishing page posing as Bandizip, the popular file compression utility. Its Chinese page title, "Bandizip-快速、可靠的全平台压缩工具" ("fast, reliable cross-platform compression tool"), shows it targets Chinese-speaking users searching for the software. PhishDestroy first flagged the domain on 2026-10-08. As of 2026-10-19 it was still online and redirecting visitors elsewhere.

How the scam works

The site copies the branding and pitch of a trusted free utility so it looks like the official download source, often reached through search ads or lookalike results. Fake download portals of this kind typically hand out tampered installers or send visitors on to other malicious pages, and the redirect on this domain fits that pattern. A visitor who runs a file from such a page can lose control of the computer, saved passwords and any locally stored crypto wallet data. MetaMask and SEAL both list the domain, which marks it as a risk to crypto users in particular.

Evidence

On 2026-10-09, 10 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including Kaspersky, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, CyRadar, Gridinsoft and Lionic. That is a minority of engines, but it spans several independent vendors and arrived within a day of our own detection. The domain is on the PhishDestroy, MetaMask and SEAL blocklists, and three AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-08 through GNAME.COM PTE. LTD., about a month before PhishDestroy detected it. A fresh domain built around a well-known software brand is a common setup for a short-lived lure. It resolves to 206.119.175.11 on the SonderCloud Limited network in the US and uses a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

Download Bandizip only from its developer Bandisoft's official site, and do not open anything obtained through this domain. If you ran an installer from it, disconnect the machine, run a full scan with a reputable antivirus, and change important passwords from a separate clean device while turning on 2FA. If that computer held a crypto wallet or seed phrase, assume it is exposed: create a new wallet on a clean device and move your funds there. Defenders should block the domain and its IP, and check endpoint and proxy logs for downloads or redirects tied to it.
