PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

transpetro.sbs is an impersonation phishing page that posed as Transpetro, the logistics and pipeline arm of Brazil's Petrobras group. Its Portuguese title, "Antes de começar | Transpetro 2026" ("Before you start | Transpetro 2026"), shows it was aimed at Brazilian visitors. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-15. The site went offline on 2026-09-16, and its DNS was still inactive when we checked again on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The "Before you start" framing makes the page look like the first step of an official Transpetro process for 2026. Lures dressed this way usually promise a job opening, a selection program or a benefit, then walk the visitor through forms that collect full name, CPF, phone, email, banking details and sometimes login credentials. Many end by asking for a small "registration" or "processing" fee. Victims lose that payment, and the harvested identity data can be reused for fraud or more targeted scams.

Evidence

VirusTotal scanning on 2026-09-17 returned 5 detections out of 89 engines. The flagging vendors were alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and Webroot. That is a modest count, typical of a domain that lived only a few days, but it comes from five independent vendors. The domain also appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which means other researchers tracked it too. PhishDestroy lists it on its blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through NameSilo, LLC on 2026-09-07, eight days before we detected it, and went dark a day after detection. That short, disposable lifespan fits a campaign built to be used and discarded quickly. The site sat behind Cloudflare, with the serving IP located in Canada, so the real origin server was hidden. It had a valid certificate from Google Trust Services (WE1), so the browser padlock gave no sign that anything was wrong.

What to do

If you filled in forms on this site, assume your CPF, contact details and any bank data are compromised. Watch your accounts and credit for activity you don't recognize, and be wary of follow-up calls or messages that claim to be from Transpetro. If you paid any fee, contact your bank right away to dispute it. If you entered a password, change it everywhere you reuse it and turn on two-factor authentication. Defenders should block the domain, search mail and proxy logs for visits since 2026-09-07, and warn staff that real Transpetro hiring is announced only through official Petrobras channels.
