Overview

spark-dex.xyz poses as SparkDEX, a decentralized exchange on the Flare network. It uses the page title "SparkDEX — Your DeFi Journey On Flare Starts Here" to catch Flare users searching for the real platform. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-09, and the site was still up and serving its content on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake DEX front-ends like this one copy the look of the real interface, then prompt visitors to connect a wallet before they can swap or provide liquidity. Once connected, the victim is pushed to approve token allowances or sign transactions that look routine but give the attacker control over their assets. Those approvals let the operator move tokens out of the wallet, often after the victim has left the site. The losses are the tokens covered by whatever the victim signed, and on-chain transfers cannot be reversed.

Evidence

On 2026-10-09, eleven of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Emsisoft, CRDF and alphaMountain.ai. That is a solid early result for a site that was only days old. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and matched it to generic crypto branding. Wallet-focused blocklists also list it, including MetaMask, ScamSniffer and SEAL, so many wallet users will already see warnings.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through NameSilo, LLC on 2026-10-07, two days before it was detected. That short gap is typical of lookalike domains that are set up and used quickly. The site sits behind Cloudflare, with the address resolving in Canada, which hides the actual origin server. Its free automated certificate means the padlock icon proves nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to spark-dex.xyz, use a token approval checker for the Flare network to revoke any allowances granted to unfamiliar contracts. Move remaining funds to a fresh wallet if you signed anything you did not fully understand. Never type a seed phrase into any site, and reach SparkDEX only through bookmarks or official channels you have verified. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and file abuse reports with Cloudflare and NameSilo. They should also watch for similar SparkDEX lookalike domains.
