PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

eth-onchain-999.xyz was an impersonation phishing site that presented itself as "Onchain-ETH", borrowing Ethereum's name to look like a legitimate on-chain service. Its audience was ETH holders and anyone using an Ethereum wallet. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-09-14. The site has been offline since 2026-09-21, and its DNS was still inactive when we last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

A page titled "Onchain-ETH" relies on familiar Ethereum branding and on-chain language to make visitors trust it with their wallet. Pages of this kind usually ask visitors to connect a wallet, sign a transaction or message, or type in a recovery phrase to claim a reward, verify an account or unlock a feature. Each of those requests gives the operator a way to move the victim's funds. Signed approvals and exposed seed phrases can be used to empty a wallet, and the losses cannot be reversed on-chain.

Evidence

Five of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-09-23: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Google Safe Browsing, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That count is modest, but the vendors are independent of one another and agree on the verdict. Google Safe Browsing labels the site SOCIAL_ENGINEERING, which means Chrome and other browsers that use it would have shown a warning. The domain is also listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist and appears in three AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through GoDaddy.com, LLC on 2026-03-20, nearly six months before PhishDestroy detected it. Phishing operators often register domains well in advance so that a new domain does not draw scrutiny. The site sat behind Cloudflare's network, with an IP address that geolocates to Canada, so the real origin server stayed hidden. Its free Google Trust Services certificate put a padlock in the browser, which says nothing about whether the site was safe.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to this site, use a token-approval checker to revoke any permissions you granted, and move your remaining assets to a fresh wallet if you signed anything unfamiliar. If you typed in a seed phrase or private key, treat that wallet as compromised and transfer the funds to a new wallet created on a clean device right away. Be wary of anyone offering to recover lost crypto, since recovery offers are a common follow-up scam. Security teams should block the domain, search DNS and proxy logs for visits since 2026-09-14, and add it to their wallet-phishing detection rules.
