PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

wispyz.com is an impersonation phishing page dressed up as Capital One. Its browser tab reads "Capital One Financial", and it targets the bank's customers. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-13. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its phishing content, more than a month after detection.

How the scam works

The page copies the look of a Capital One sign-in so that a visitor arriving from a text, email or search ad believes they are on the real bank site. Anything typed into it, such as username, password, one-time codes, card numbers or identity details, goes straight to the operators. With working credentials and a live 2FA code, criminals can take over the account, move money, or reuse the card data and personal information for further fraud. The domain name itself has nothing to do with Capital One, which is a strong sign the page is not genuine.

Evidence

Twelve of 89 VirusTotal engines classified the domain as malicious in a check on 2026-09-24. They include BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, CyRadar and Gridinsoft. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and recognised Capital One branding on the page. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as phishing. Besides PhishDestroy, the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists carry it, and four AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference it, so several independent sources reached the same conclusion.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-11 through Cloudflare, Inc. and was already flagged two days later. That short gap is typical of throwaway phishing domains set up for a single campaign. The site resolves to a Cloudflare network address listed in Canada, which is a proxy edge, so the real origin server is not visible. Its Google Trust Services certificate gives it a padlock, but that only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

If you entered credentials on wispyz.com, change your Capital One password right away using the official app or by typing the bank's address yourself. Change it as well on any other site where you used the same password, and reset your 2FA if you gave the page a code. Call Capital One using the number printed on your card to report the incident, review recent transactions and replace any card you entered. Watch for follow-up calls or texts that pretend to be the bank. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and mail gateways, search logs for visits since 2026-09-13, and report it to Cloudflare and Capital One's abuse team.
