Overview

update-installer.com is an impersonation phishing page that presents itself under the name StreamVault. It targets people who believe they are dealing with a legitimate service or a routine software update. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-05. As of 2026-10-19 the domain was still live and redirecting visitors, so the lure remains active. The domain name points to a software updater, while the page title shows StreamVault.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages copy the look and wording of a service the victim already trusts. A generic name like update-installer adds urgency: an update seems routine and safe, so visitors lower their guard. Under the StreamVault branding, victims are pushed to sign in, enter personal or payment details, or download whatever the page offers. Anything typed in goes straight to the operators. Anything downloaded runs on the victim's machine with the victim's own permissions.

Evidence

On 2026-09-11, 14 of 89 VirusTotal engines classified the domain as malicious. That is a meaningful minority for a site this new, and the flags came from established names including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, alphaMountain.ai and Chong Lua Dao. Five AlienVault OTX pulses reference the domain, which means other researchers have independently tracked it. Among blocklists, PhishDestroy currently lists it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-05-30 through Fewmoretaps OU d/b/a Trustname.com. That is roughly three months before PhishDestroy detected it, a gap that suggests it was either held in reserve or quietly in use before drawing attention. It sits behind Cloudflare, with the edge address geolocating to Canada. As a result, the real origin server is hidden from public view, and takedown requests have to go through the network provider.

What to do

If you entered a password on this page, change it right away on the real StreamVault account and on any other site where you reused it. Then turn on two-factor authentication. If you shared card details, contact your bank and ask for the card to be blocked. If you downloaded or ran anything from the site, disconnect the device, run a full scan with reputable antivirus, and change passwords from a separate, clean device. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and search logs for past visits. Report it to Cloudflare so the redirect can be shut down.
