PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

stremiotv.online is an impersonation phishing page that borrows the identity of Stremio, the popular media streaming app. It targets people searching for Stremio who land on a lookalike domain instead of the official project. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-25. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still alive and its content was reachable through a redirect.

How the scam works

The page presents itself under the title "Stremio - Freedom to Stream", copying the official branding so it looks like the genuine download or account page. Lookalike software sites like this typically exploit the trust in a known name. They push visitors toward a fake installer, a sign-in form or a payment prompt that has nothing to do with the real product. Victims risk handing over account credentials or payment details, or installing software from an untrusted source. The redirect means the domain can quietly forward visitors to wherever the operator currently sends traffic.

Evidence

On 2026-09-06, 15 of 90 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. Detections came from alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, Certego, CRDF, CyRadar, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker and Fortinet. That is a minority of engines, but the vendors who flagged it are independent of each other and agree. The domain also appears in 9 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which shows other researchers have tracked it. PhishDestroy currently lists it on its blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-02-02 through Global Domain Group LLC, about 204 days before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap suggests it either sat idle or ran unnoticed for months before surfacing. It is hosted on the OC NETWORKS LIMITED network in Sweden.

What to do

Get Stremio only from its official website or a trusted app store, never from a lookalike domain. If you downloaded anything from stremiotv.online, delete it, run a full scan with up-to-date security software and check your startup programs. If you entered a password, change it on Stremio and on any service that uses the same password, and enable two-factor authentication where it is available. If you entered card details, contact your bank to block the card and dispute any charges. Defenders should block the domain and the hosting IP at the DNS and proxy level, and review logs for users who reached it.
