PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

start-com-ledger.pages.dev is a phishing page that impersonates Ledger, the hardware wallet maker, and targets people setting up or troubleshooting a Ledger device. The page presented itself as a "Ledger Crypto Wallet Guide | Futuristic Crypto Security", and the "start" in its name mimics an official onboarding page. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-15. The site has been offline since 2026-09-21 after the hosting provider blocked its content, and it was still down when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake Ledger "guide" and "start" pages walk visitors through what looks like a normal setup or security check. At the key step, they ask the user to type in the 24-word recovery phrase or to install a counterfeit version of the companion app. A Ledger device never needs its recovery phrase entered on a website. Anyone who hands it over gives the attacker full control of every account tied to that seed. The attacker can then empty those wallets from any device without ever touching the physical Ledger.

Evidence

11 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-09-21. The flags came from established vendors including alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CyRadar, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data and Kaspersky. That is a modest share of engines, but the detections come from independent vendors that agree on the verdict. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognized Ledger branding on it. The domain also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy, so crypto-focused defenders flagged it separately.

Infrastructure

The page ran as a free subdomain on Cloudflare Pages, which lets anyone publish a site in minutes without buying a domain. Traffic resolved to Cloudflare, Inc. network space geolocated to Canada, which is standard for Cloudflare's shared edge and says nothing about where the operator is. The HTTPS certificate came from WE1, the issuer Cloudflare provisions automatically, so the padlock offered no assurance of legitimacy. Cloudflare took the content down roughly six days after PhishDestroy first saw it.

What to do

If you typed your recovery phrase into this page, treat that wallet as compromised. Set up a fresh seed on your device and move any remaining funds to new addresses immediately, starting with the most valuable assets. If you downloaded software from the site, uninstall it, scan the computer, and get Ledger Live only through Ledger's official channels. Remember that Ledger will never ask for your 24 words online, by email or in chat. Defenders should block the domain and watch for similar "start" and "ledger" names on free hosting platforms, since this pattern is easy to reuse.
