PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

safe.chainalysis-recovery.help is a fraudulent site that impersonates Chainalysis, the well-known blockchain analytics company, under the guise of a stolen-crypto recovery service. It targets cryptocurrency holders who have already lost funds and are desperate to get them back — a particularly vulnerable audience. PhishDestroy first identified it on 2026-09-17. The site went offline by 2026-09-18 and remained dead as of the last check on 2026-10-17.

How the scam works

The page title — "Chainalysis — Recover Your Stolen Crypto Assets" — presents the site as an official Chainalysis recovery portal. Victims are lured in by the promise of reclaiming lost cryptocurrency, then prompted to connect their wallets or submit credentials. A crypto drainer silently requests broad token-transfer approvals or signs malicious transactions in the background, sweeping the victim's assets to attacker-controlled addresses the moment they interact. The real Chainalysis offers no such consumer recovery portal; the brand is used purely to manufacture trust.

Evidence

VirusTotal flagged this domain as malicious on 2026-09-19, with 13 detections out of 89 engines queried. Vendors confirming the threat include BitDefender, ESET, Emsisoft, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, CRDF, Ermes, and alphaMountain.ai. urlscan.io independently returned a malicious verdict and attributed the brand impersonation to Chainalysis. The domain also appears on two blocklists: PhishDestroy and ScamSniffer.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-07-17 through Global Domain Group LLC, two months before PhishDestroy detected it in active use. It was hosted on Cloudflare's network, resolving to an IP geolocated in Canada. The TLS certificate was issued by Google Trust Services under the WE1 intermediate, which gave the site a padlock that could mislead visitors into trusting it.

What to do

If you visited this site and connected a wallet, revoke all token approvals immediately using a trusted approval-management tool, then transfer remaining assets to a fresh wallet address. If you submitted a seed phrase or private key anywhere on the site, consider that wallet fully compromised and move all funds out without delay. Do not send cryptocurrency to any address the site provided on the premise of recovering funds. Security teams and wallet providers should ensure this domain and its hosting IP are present in their blocklists; both PhishDestroy and ScamSniffer feeds already carry this entry.
