PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

proposals-morpho.xyz is an impersonation phishing page posing as Morpho, the DeFi lending protocol, under the copied title "Morpho | The open credit network for the world". The "proposals" prefix aims at Morpho users and token holders who expect to review or vote on governance proposals. PhishDestroy first saw the site on 2026-09-27. It was still online with live content on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake governance portals rely on urgency. A link circulates claiming a new Morpho proposal needs a vote or that holders can claim something, and the visitor lands on a page that looks like the real protocol. The next step is a "connect wallet" prompt followed by a signature or transaction request. On sites like this, that request is typically a token approval or permit that lets the operator move the victim's assets. Voting on a real proposal never requires handing a third party spending rights over your tokens.

Evidence

On 2026-10-09, six of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: ChainPatrol, alphaMountain.ai, Ermes, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That ratio is low, so many generic security tools will still let the page load without a warning. The stronger signal comes from crypto-specific defenders. MetaMask and SEAL list the domain alongside PhishDestroy, which means MetaMask users should see a warning before connecting.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-23 through Eranet International Limited, four days before PhishDestroy detected it. That short gap fits a site set up quickly for a campaign. Its address sits on Cloudflare's network, geolocated to Canada, so the IP reflects Cloudflare's proxy rather than the server actually hosting the page. The site uses a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the browser padlock only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about who runs the site.

What to do

If you only opened the page, close it and reach Morpho through a bookmark you saved yourself. If you connected a wallet and signed anything, use a token-approval checker to revoke any approvals or permits granted around that time. If assets are already at risk, move them to a fresh wallet. Never import a seed phrase into any site, and treat governance links from social media, DMs or replies as suspect until you have confirmed them through Morpho's own channels. Security teams should block the domain at the DNS and proxy level and report it to Cloudflare and the registrar.
