PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

primelegacycu.com is an impersonation phishing site whose name is built to read like a credit union, the "cu" ending that real credit unions commonly use. urlscan.io matched it to a generic banking login template, so the targets are people who bank online and expect a familiar sign-in page. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-29. The domain remains registered, but as of 2026-10-19 its DNS was inactive and it was not serving content.

How the scam works

Fake banking portals like this are usually reached through texts or emails warning of a locked account, a suspicious transfer or a required verification. The victim lands on a copied login screen and types a username and password, often followed by one-time codes, card details or security answers. The operators can then sign in to the real account, move money or reset access before the owner notices. The browser tab read "New Private Tab", a title that says nothing about banking, while we classified the site as banking impersonation.

Evidence

On 2026-10-01, 11 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, among them BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, CRDF and alphaMountain.ai. That is a minority of engines, but several major vendors reached the same verdict independently. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognized the banking template. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have tracked it as well. It is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-22 through TuringSign Inc. d/b/a Cosmotown. It was flagged seven days later, a short gap typical of disposable phishing domains set up for a single campaign. It was hosted at 198.251.81.188 on FranTech Solutions in the US. Its Let's Encrypt certificate gave the page a browser padlock, which shows the connection was encrypted, not that the site was trustworthy.

What to do

If you entered credentials on this site, sign in to your real credit union through its official app or a bookmarked address and change your password right away. Call the institution using the number on your card to report it, review recent transactions and ask whether new payees or devices were added. If you shared card numbers, PINs or one-time codes, ask the bank to block the card. Change the password anywhere else you reused it. Defenders should block the domain and its IP, search mail and SMS logs for links to it, and report lookalike credit union domains to the affected institution.
