PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

metamaskwallet.icu is an impersonation phishing domain that uses the MetaMask name to target users of the popular self-custody wallet. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-17, just two days after registration. The site went offline the same day, and as of 2026-10-19 its DNS no longer resolves.

How the scam works

Phishing sites like this one rely on the brand in the address bar to look like an official MetaMask wallet page. Victims are steered into "restoring", "verifying" or "syncing" their wallet. Anyone who types a secret recovery phrase or private key into such a page hands over full control of the wallet, and the funds can be swept within minutes. The served page carried the Chinese title "星澜企业服务 - 企业网站介绍与服务咨询", a generic corporate-services heading, while our classification is MetaMask impersonation phishing.

Evidence

urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and specifically recognized MetaMask branding on the site. MetaMask's own blocklist and the SEAL blocklist list the domain alongside PhishDestroy, which is strong confirmation from the brand owner and the security community. On VirusTotal, 5 of 89 engines flagged it on 2026-09-17: ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, LevelBlue and SOCRadar. That count is modest, but typical for a domain caught within days of launch. Spamhaus DBL lists it as spam, and the domain appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-15 through Gname.com Pte. Ltd. and was detected on 2026-09-17. That short gap fits a disposable domain set up for a quick phishing run. It was hosted on the QINIU Limited network in Singapore, behind a domain-validated certificate from TrustAsia. A certificate of this kind only confirms control of the domain, so the padlock said nothing about the site's legitimacy.

What to do

If you entered your MetaMask recovery phrase or private key on this site, treat the wallet as compromised. Create a new wallet with a fresh phrase and move any remaining assets to it immediately. Do not reuse the old phrase anywhere. If you connected a wallet or signed anything, review and revoke token approvals with a trusted approval-checking tool. MetaMask will never ask for your recovery phrase through a website. Defenders should block the domain and its hosting IP 154.41.93.241, search logs for past visits, and watch for lookalike MetaMask domains on cheap TLDs such as .icu.
