PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

matrixpoints.com presents itself as "Matrix Points" and advertises Scene+ points at half price. PhishDestroy classifies it as an impersonation phishing page that trades on the Scene+ loyalty brand to reach people who collect or redeem those points. We first detected it on 2026-09-19. As of 2026-10-19 the site is still online, and visitors are now redirected when they load it.

How the scam works

Schemes like this use a deal that sounds too good to pass up, such as discounted loyalty points from an unofficial reseller, to get the buyer to pay first. Loyalty programs do not sell their points through independent "half price" storefronts. A buyer who pays typically never receives any points, and the payment can rarely be recovered. Fake loyalty sites can also ask visitors to sign in with their real Scene+ account "to receive the points." That hands the operators the login and any balance already in the account.

Evidence

On 2026-10-03, five of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and URLQuery. That is a minority of engines, but the five come from separate vendors and reached the same verdict on their own. The domain is also listed on the PhishDestroy and ScamSniffer blocklists, and it appears in three AlienVault OTX threat pulses. Together these show that other researchers have tracked it beyond our own detection.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Namecheap on 2026-09-10, nine days before we detected it. A brand-new domain that quickly starts promising cheap points fits a short-lived scam rather than an established reseller. The site runs on Render's cloud hosting in the United States at 216.24.57.1. It uses a certificate from Google Trust Services. That certificate only encrypts the connection, so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the seller is genuine.

What to do

If you paid matrixpoints.com, contact your card issuer or payment provider right away and dispute the charge as fraud. Do not send any further "activation" or "transfer" fees. If you entered Scene+ login details, change that password immediately, plus any other account that uses the same password. Turn on any extra sign-in protection the program offers, and check your points balance and redemption history for activity you don't recognize. Report the site to Scene+ through its official support channel. Security teams should block the domain and watch for lookalike "points discount" domains registered recently through the same pattern.
