PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

lkyexch.com was an impersonation phishing page with the bare title "LKY" and a domain name that reads like a crypto exchange. It targeted people looking to trade or store cryptocurrency, presenting generic crypto branding rather than one recognizable company. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-11. The site has been offline since 2026-09-24, and its DNS was still inactive when we checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Pages like this copy the look of a trading platform so visitors believe they are dealing with a real service. Victims are typically asked to sign up, log in or link a wallet. Those credentials and wallet details then go to the operators. On exchange-style fakes, users may also be persuaded to deposit funds that never become withdrawable. A balance can appear to grow on screen while the money is already gone, and further "fees" are often demanded before any payout.

Evidence

On 2026-09-20, sixteen of 89 VirusTotal engines classified the domain as malicious. They included BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, G-Data, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, alphaMountain.ai and the Vietnamese anti-scam group Chong Lua Dao. Agreement across that many unrelated vendors makes a false positive unlikely. urlscan.io independently returned a malicious verdict and matched the page to generic crypto branding. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, alongside its listing on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Name.com, Inc. on 2025-08-25, more than a year before we detected it. Holding a domain that long before using it can help it pass reputation filters that distrust newly created names. The site was hosted on Amazon cloud infrastructure in the US. It used a free, automatically issued Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser said nothing about whether the operator was legitimate.

What to do

If you deposited funds on this site, stop sending money and refuse any request for unlock, tax or withdrawal fees, since paying more will not release anything. Record your transaction IDs and report them to your exchange or wallet provider and to local police. Change any password you entered there, as well as the password on any account that reuses it, and turn on app-based 2FA. If you connected a wallet, revoke the token approvals it granted and move any remaining assets to a fresh address. Defenders should block the domain and check DNS and proxy logs for visits made before 2026-09-24.
