PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

ledgre-live-start.pages.dev is a phishing page that impersonates Ledger, the hardware wallet maker. It targets people who have just bought a device and are looking for setup help. The misspelled "ledgre" in the subdomain is meant to pass a quick glance as an official Ledger Live start page. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-08. The site has been offline since 2026-09-16, blocked by its hosting provider, and was still down when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The page presented itself as "Getting Started with Ledger: A Beginner's Guide to Cryptocurrency Security." That framing is aimed squarely at newcomers who do not yet know how a genuine setup works. Fake Ledger onboarding pages like this usually steer the visitor toward "verifying" or "restoring" the wallet by typing in the 24-word recovery phrase, or toward downloading a counterfeit Ledger Live app that asks for the same thing. Anyone who hands over the recovery phrase gives the attacker full control of every account behind that device. The funds can then be emptied from any computer, and the hardware wallet offers no protection.

Evidence

Four of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the address as of 2026-09-18: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet and LevelBlue. That is a low count, and most scanners would have let the page through. Crypto-focused blocklists caught it more reliably. Besides PhishDestroy, it is listed by MetaMask and by SEAL, the security alliance that tracks wallet-targeting threats.

Infrastructure

The site ran on a free Cloudflare Pages subdomain created on 2026-08-25, two weeks before PhishDestroy detected it. Pages like this take minutes to deploy, cost nothing and sit under a shared domain with a good reputation, which is why they are popular for short-lived brand impersonation. Traffic was served through Cloudflare's network from a Canadian address. The provider has since blocked the content.

What to do

Ledger never asks for your recovery phrase on a website, in an app or in a support chat. If you typed your 24 words into this page or into anything it led you to, treat that phrase as burned. Set up a device with a fresh phrase and move all funds to it immediately. If you installed software from the page, remove it and scan the machine, and get Ledger Live only through Ledger's official channels. If you also connected a software wallet, review and revoke any token approvals you do not recognize. Defenders should block this subdomain, watch for misspelled Ledger names on free hosting platforms, and report new ones to the hosting provider and to crypto blocklists such as SEAL and MetaMask.
