PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

ledgerr-comstart.pages.dev is a phishing page impersonating Ledger, the hardware wallet maker. It presented itself as "How to Set up Ledger Portfolio & Wallet App" to catch people who were setting up a new device or reinstalling the companion software. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-08-31. The site has been offline since 2026-09-11 after the hosting provider blocked its content, and it was still down at the last check on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake Ledger setup guides go after the one thing a hardware wallet is built to protect: the recovery phrase. The victim follows what looks like official onboarding and is then told the device needs to be "verified," "synced" or "restored," and asked to type in the 24-word seed or download an imitation Ledger app that captures it. Whoever holds that phrase can rebuild the wallet on their own device and empty every account it controls. Once the funds move on-chain, the transfer cannot be reversed.

Evidence

On 2026-09-11, VirusTotal showed 11 of 89 engines flagging the address, including BitDefender, ESET, Kaspersky, Fortinet, Netcraft, G-Data, Emsisoft and alphaMountain.ai. That is a minority of engines, but it is a spread of established vendors that independently reached the same verdict. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognized Ledger branding on it. The address also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy's own.

Infrastructure

The page ran as a free Cloudflare Pages subdomain, with the operator's chosen name tacked onto the platform's address. The "ledgerr-comstart" label imitates Ledger's official setup path, and the doubled "r" is a typo-squat built to pass a quick glance. The subdomain dates to 2025-10-06, nearly eleven months before PhishDestroy flagged it. It was served from Cloudflare's network with a Canadian IP, and the provider pulled the content once the site was reported.

What to do

If you typed your recovery phrase into this page or into any app it pointed you to, treat that wallet as compromised. Set up a new device or wallet with a fresh phrase and move whatever funds remain there right away. Ledger will never ask for your 24 words online, by email or in any app, and genuine software should only come from Ledger directly. If you just visited and entered nothing, you are not at risk, but scan for and remove anything you downloaded from the site. Security teams should block the domain and watch for similar typo-squatted Ledger names on free hosting platforms.
