PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

ledgerlivedownload.pages.dev poses as the download page for Ledger Live, the companion app for Ledger hardware wallets, under the title "Ledger Live Download – Secure Hardware Wallet Management". It targets people who search for the app and click the first convincing result instead of going to Ledger directly. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-31, and as of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its phishing content.

How the scam works

Fake Ledger Live download pages usually do one of two things. Some offer a counterfeit installer that later asks the user to "restore" or "verify" their wallet by typing the 24-word recovery phrase. Others ask for that phrase directly on the page. Ledger hardware keeps private keys offline, so these pages go after the one thing that can rebuild the wallet anywhere: the recovery phrase. Once it is typed in, the attackers can restore the wallet on their own device and empty every account it controls, and the hardware wallet gives no protection against that.

Evidence

On 2026-09-13, 13 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including BitDefender, ESET, Kaspersky, Fortinet, Emsisoft, G-Data, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker and alphaMountain.ai. That is a minority of engines, but the flagging vendors are mainstream security products working independently. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and recognised Ledger branding on the page. The domain also appears on the MetaMask, SEAL and PhishFeed blocklists alongside PhishDestroy's own, so wallet users with those protections should already see a warning.

Infrastructure

The site runs on Cloudflare Pages under the shared pages.dev namespace and resolves to Cloudflare, Inc. address space geolocated to Canada. Its registration date of 2025-09-10 comes almost a year before PhishDestroy's first sighting. Free static hosting on a well-known platform gives the page a fast, HTTPS-secured look at no cost, so the padlock and the polished domain name say nothing about whether the page is legitimate.

What to do

If you typed your recovery phrase into this site or into an app downloaded from it, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a fresh wallet with a new recovery phrase and move any remaining funds there immediately. If you installed software from the page, remove it and scan the computer before using it for crypto again. Get Ledger Live only by typing Ledger's official address yourself, and remember that Ledger never asks for your recovery phrase. Defenders should block the domain, watch for other pages.dev hosts using Ledger branding, and report the site to Cloudflare's abuse team.
