PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

ledgerlive-welcome.pages.dev is an impersonation phishing page posing as Ledger Live, the companion app for Ledger hardware wallets. Its title, "Ledger Live – Secure Crypto Management App", is meant to look like an official download or onboarding page, and the "welcome" in the hostname suggests a setup flow for new device owners. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-08-31. The site has been offline since 2026-09-11 after the hosting provider blocked its content, and it was still dead when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake Ledger Live pages usually lure visitors with a setup, update or security-check prompt. The page then asks for the 24-word recovery phrase or offers a trojanized copy of the app. A Ledger device never needs its recovery phrase typed into a website or desktop form. Anyone who enters the phrase hands over full control of every account derived from it, and the attacker can empty the wallet from anywhere without touching the physical device.

Evidence

urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognized Ledger branding on it. MetaMask, SEAL and PhishDestroy list the domain on their blocklists, so wallet users and security tools already have independent warnings. VirusTotal coverage was thin: only alphaMountain.ai flagged it, 1 of 89 engines, in a scan on 2026-09-11. That low score shows how far behind generic antivirus vendors can fall on wallet-themed phishing.

Infrastructure

The page ran on a free Cloudflare Pages subdomain rather than a purchased domain, which costs the operator nothing and can be replaced almost instantly. The project dates to 2025-10-06, nearly eleven months before PhishDestroy detected it. Traffic was served through Cloudflare's network from an address geolocated to Canada, and the certificate came from WE1, the standard automatic issuer for this platform. Because the subdomain inherits Cloudflare's reputation, it can slip past filters that rely on domain age or trust.

What to do

If you typed your recovery phrase on this site, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a new Ledger seed on your device and move any remaining funds to it immediately, before the attacker does. If you downloaded software from the page, uninstall it, scan the computer, and reinstall Ledger Live only from Ledger's official site. Remember that no genuine Ledger process ever asks for your 24 words. Defenders should block the hostname, watch for similar lookalike subdomains on free hosting platforms, and report new copies to Cloudflare and to PhishDestroy.
