PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

ion-usdc.com is an impersonation phishing page that poses as an ION-branded earning product under the title "ION USDC • Earn Yield with ION + USDC". It targets crypto holders, especially USDC holders who are looking for passive returns. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-11. When last checked on 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content, so it remains a live risk.

How the scam works

The page uses the ION name and the promise of yield on USDC to look like a legitimate staking or earning program. In schemes of this kind, the victim is asked to connect a wallet and then deposit stablecoins or approve a token transaction to "start earning." That approval or transfer hands control of the funds to the operators. The promised yield never arrives, and deposited or approved USDC can be moved out of the wallet without further consent.

Evidence

On 2026-09-21, ten of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. They include BitDefender, Kaspersky, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, CRDF and alphaMountain.ai, a spread of established vendors rather than one outlier. The wallet-focused blocklists of MetaMask and SEAL list it alongside PhishDestroy, which matters because MetaMask users get a warning before they connect. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL under the phishing category, and four AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Tucows on 2026-06-21, roughly 82 days before PhishDestroy flagged it. That gap points to a site prepared in advance rather than spun up and burned within hours. It runs on Google Ireland Limited's cloud network with an IP located in the Netherlands, behind a free Let's Encrypt certificate. The padlock only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to this site, use a token approval checker to review and revoke any approvals it requested, particularly for USDC. Then move your remaining assets to a fresh wallet if you signed anything you did not fully understand. Do not send further funds to "unlock" earnings or pay fees, because the deposit itself is the theft. If you entered a seed phrase, treat that wallet as compromised and empty it immediately. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and report it to the hosting provider and registrar for takedown.
