PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

elontwitter777.xyz is an impersonation phishing site whose name joins Elon Musk to the Twitter brand, with a "lucky" 777 suffix of the kind used to bait people chasing crypto windfalls. It targets people who follow Musk or crypto promotions on social media. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-10. As of 2026-10-19 the domain was still alive and redirecting visitors elsewhere.

How the scam works

Sites built on Musk's name usually present a fake giveaway or exclusive offer: send cryptocurrency to a listed address and receive double back, or log in with a social or wallet account to claim a reward. Nothing is ever returned. Any funds sent are gone, and any credentials entered pass straight to the operators. The live redirect means the domain works as a doorway, so the final page a visitor lands on can change at any time.

Evidence

Six of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain on 2026-10-12: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue and SOCRadar. That is a modest count, so many browsers and filters will still let it through without a warning. Three AlienVault OTX pulses reference it, which means other researchers have tied it to tracked threat activity. Among blocklists, it appears only on PhishDestroy's so far.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-07 through Global Domain Group LLC, just three days before we detected it. That quick turnaround fits a throwaway domain set up for a short campaign. It resolves to 66.198.225.39 on the SKN Subnet & Telecom Ltd network in the United States. It carries a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the browser padlock says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

If you sent crypto to any address shown by this site, treat it as lost. Report the transaction to the exchange or wallet provider you sent it from, and ignore anyone who offers to "recover" the funds, since recovery offers are a common follow-up scam. If you connected a wallet, revoke any token approvals you granted. If you entered an X/Twitter or email password, change it, turn on two-factor authentication and review recent logins. Defenders should block the domain and its IP at DNS and proxy level and watch for sibling domains that combine Musk or Twitter names with numeric suffixes.
