PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

doc-ledgre-en-start.pages.dev is an impersonation phishing page posing as Ledger's official device onboarding portal under the title "Ledger Start | Quick Setup & Secure Your Crypto". It targets new and existing Ledger hardware wallet owners looking for setup instructions. The misspelled "ledgre" in the address is meant to slip past a quick glance. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-26. The site has been offline since 2026-09-01, with its content blocked by the hosting provider, and was still down when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake "Ledger Start" pages take advantage of the moment someone unboxes a hardware wallet and searches for setup help. They usually walk the visitor through a convincing onboarding flow and then ask them to "restore", "verify" or "sync" the device by typing in its 24-word recovery phrase. Some versions push a counterfeit Ledger Live download instead. Anyone who enters the phrase hands over full control of the wallet, and the attackers can empty every account derived from it from their own device. A hardware wallet offers no protection once the seed has been typed into a website.

Evidence

On 2026-09-02, VirusTotal showed 13 of 91 engines flagging the address. Those vendors included BitDefender, ESET, Kaspersky, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Emsisoft and alphaMountain.ai. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and identified Ledger as the impersonated brand, which matches the page title. Besides PhishDestroy, the domain appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists, so wallet software and security responders reached the same conclusion on their own.

Infrastructure

The page was deployed on Cloudflare Pages, which gives every project a free subdomain under a widely trusted parent. It was served from Cloudflare's network with a Canadian IP location. The registration date is 2025-09-11, almost a year before PhishDestroy detected the page. Throwaway deployments like this cost little to create and are easy to replace, so the same operators may come back under a new subdomain with similar wording.

What to do

If you typed your recovery phrase into this site, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a new seed on your device, or on a new device, and move any remaining funds to it immediately. If you installed software from the page, uninstall it, scan the machine, and only use Ledger Live downloaded from Ledger's own site. Ledger will never ask for your 24 words online. Defenders should block the hostname and watch for lookalike pages.dev subdomains that mix "ledger" misspellings with words like "start" or "setup".
