PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

coinbasewalletop.com is an impersonation phishing page that borrows the Coinbase name, and the "wallet" in its domain points at people looking for Coinbase Wallet. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-11, only two days after the domain was registered. The site has been offline since 2026-09-19 and was still dead when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The domain uses the Coinbase brand, but the page itself carried the title "NCEX" rather than a Coinbase name, so it presented as a differently named platform under a Coinbase-themed address. Pages like this usually lure people with a lookalike address, then ask for a login, a recovery phrase or a wallet connection, or present a trading dashboard that invites deposits. Anything typed in or sent goes straight to the operators. Stolen credentials and seed phrases let them empty accounts and wallets, and crypto deposits cannot be reversed.

Evidence

Seven of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain on 2026-09-11, the same day PhishDestroy caught it. The flags came from alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, Ermes, G-Data, Kaspersky and URLQuery. That is a modest share, typical for a domain only days old, but it includes several independent vendors. The domain is also listed by MetaMask's blocklist and by SEAL, so wallet users on those protections were warned.

Infrastructure

The two-day gap between registration through Gname.com Pte. Ltd. on 2026-09-09 and detection fits a short-lived campaign domain set up for immediate use. The site resolved to Cloudflare, Inc. address space geolocated to Canada, which means the visible IP belongs to the proxy rather than the operator's own server. Its Sectigo DV certificate only proves control of the domain, so the padlock said nothing about whether the site was genuinely Coinbase.

What to do

If you signed in on this site, change your Coinbase password right away, reset two-factor authentication and review active sessions and withdrawal addresses. If you entered a recovery phrase, treat that wallet as compromised and move the remaining funds to a new wallet with a fresh seed. If you connected a wallet, revoke any token approvals granted during that session. If you sent a deposit, record the transaction details and report them to your exchange and local authorities. Defenders should block the domain and look for similar Coinbase-themed lookalikes registered around the same time.
