PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

cashbackrobinhood.com posed as an official Robinhood promotion under the page title "Robinhood Exclusive Cashback". It targeted Robinhood customers, especially those holding crypto or stocks on the platform. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-15, one day after the domain was registered. The site has been offline since 2026-09-17, and its DNS was still inactive when we last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The lure is a reward that doesn't exist: an "exclusive cashback" supposedly reserved for Robinhood users. To claim it, visitors are pushed to sign in or verify their account on a page that copies Robinhood's look. Anything typed there, such as email, password, SMS or authenticator codes, goes straight to the operators. They can use it to take over the real account, sell holdings and move funds out. A cashback claim that needs your login is the giveaway, because legitimate rewards appear inside the official app.

Evidence

Google Safe Browsing listed the domain as SOCIAL_ENGINEERING, and urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict with Robinhood detected as the imitated brand. On VirusTotal, 7 of 89 engines flagged it on 2026-09-15: ChainPatrol, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, LevelBlue and Webroot. That count is modest, but it came within a day of registration and from vendors that track crypto and phishing threats. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as phishing. It also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy and in 3 AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Namecheap on 2026-09-14 and hosted on Namecheap's own network in the US. It was flagged the next day and went dark within three days. That short lifespan is typical of throwaway phishing domains built to burn quickly. The site carried a standard SSL.com certificate, so the browser padlock said nothing about whether the page was genuine.

What to do

If you entered your Robinhood login on this page, change your password from the official app right away. Reset two-factor authentication, and review your recent logins, trades, withdrawals and linked bank accounts. Report unauthorized activity to Robinhood support immediately. Change the password anywhere else you reused it. Expect follow-up phishing by email or SMS from people posing as Robinhood "support", and never share codes with anyone who contacts you. Defenders should block the domain, hunt mail and proxy logs for visits since 2026-09-14, and watch for lookalike cashback or rewards domains using the Robinhood name.
