PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

btcveinmining.com is an impersonation phishing site. Its name suggests a Bitcoin mining service, but the page itself is titled simply "wallet", which points at people who hold crypto and might be persuaded to connect or unlock a wallet there. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-15. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its phishing content.

How the scam works

Sites like this borrow the look of a legitimate crypto service, here a mining platform, to win trust. They then steer the visitor to a wallet step. That usually means typing in a recovery phrase or private key to "link" or "restore" a wallet, or connecting a wallet and signing a request. Anyone who hands over a seed phrase gives the operators full control of that wallet, and they can empty it at once. Signing a malicious request can likewise give them permission to move the victim's tokens.

Evidence

Eleven of 89 VirusTotal engines classify the domain as malicious, among them Kaspersky, BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, CRDF and alphaMountain.ai, as of 2026-09-24. That is a minority of engines, but several of them are major vendors that reached the same verdict on their own. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL under the phishing category. MetaMask and SEAL both block it, so wallet providers and the crypto security community have reached the same conclusion we did. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Cloudflare, Inc. on 2026-09-13, only two days before PhishDestroy detected it. A gap that short is typical of throwaway domains set up for a single campaign. Traffic goes through Cloudflare's network with a Canadian location, which means the server actually hosting the page is hidden behind the proxy.

What to do

If you entered a seed phrase or private key on this site, treat that wallet as compromised. Create a new wallet on a trusted device and move any remaining funds to it right away. If you only connected a wallet or signed a request, use a token-approval checker to revoke any permissions you granted, and watch the wallet for unexpected transfers. Do not trust any "mining" balance, payout or bonus shown on the page. Security teams should block the domain at DNS and proxy level, and they should send any further sightings to Cloudflare and the blocklist maintainers to help get the site taken down.
