PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

basedone.cyou is an impersonation phishing page that presented itself as a "Based Rewards Proposal" promising that "Eligible Voters Receive Rewards." It borrows the Based name and the look of a governance vote to reach crypto users who expect token incentives for taking part. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-07. The site went offline on 2026-10-08, and on our last check on 2026-10-19 it was still dead with no active DNS.

How the scam works

Fake governance pages exploit a familiar ritual: a project posts a proposal, holders vote, and participants receive a reward. The lure here is the promise of rewards for eligible voters, which pushes visitors to prove eligibility, usually by connecting a wallet and signing what looks like a vote or a claim. In schemes of this kind, that signature or transaction is actually a token approval, transfer or permit that lets the attacker move the victim's assets. No reward exists, and the voter loses whatever the signed permission covers.

Evidence

Wallet-security blocklists caught this domain even though antivirus engines did not. MetaMask, ScamSniffer and SEAL all list it alongside PhishDestroy, and those are the lists that trigger warnings inside wallets and browser extensions. Spamhaus has the domain on its DBL as spam, and it appears in 2 AlienVault OTX threat pulses. VirusTotal returned 0 detections out of 92 engines on 2026-10-07, so a clean antivirus result is no reason to trust a page like this.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-10-06, one day before PhishDestroy detected it, and it was offline within roughly 48 hours of registration. That fits a disposable phishing domain built for a short campaign and then abandoned. The cheap .cyou extension and a name that echoes the brand point the same way. The site sat behind Cloudflare (AS13335, US), which hides the real origin server.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to this page, use a token-approval checker to revoke any permissions you granted around 2026-10-07. If assets are still exposed, move them to a fresh wallet. If you signed something you did not fully understand, treat that wallet as compromised. Only trust reward or voting announcements found through the project's official channels, never through links in DMs, replies or ads. Defenders should block basedone.cyou and similar Based-themed lookalikes on newly registered domains, and should not rely on VirusTotal scores to clear governance-reward pages.
