PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

saf-start-ledgrcom.pages.dev is an impersonation phishing page posing as Ledger's official device setup portal. Its title reads "ledger.com/start | The leading platform", which mimics the real onboarding address new Ledger owners are told to visit. The subdomain itself, with "ledgr" misspelled and "start" in the name, is built to pass a quick glance. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-15, and as of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content.

How the scam works

Pages like this catch people setting up a new Ledger or troubleshooting an existing one, often after a search ad or a link in a fake support message. The visitor is walked through what looks like the standard setup flow and is then asked to type in their 24-word recovery phrase, or to download a fake Ledger Live app that requests it. Ledger never asks for the recovery phrase on a website or in an app. Whoever has those words controls every account the device protects, so entering them can let the attacker empty the wallet within minutes.

Evidence

Thirteen of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-09-29, including BitDefender, ESET, Kaspersky, Fortinet, Emsisoft, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai and CyRadar. That spread across major antivirus and web-filtering vendors means many browsers and security suites will already warn users. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognised Ledger branding on it. The domain also appears on the MetaMask, SEAL and PhishFeed blocklists alongside PhishDestroy's own.

Infrastructure

The site runs as a Cloudflare Pages project created on 2026-09-08, one week before PhishDestroy detected it. Free hosting subdomains like this cost nothing to spin up and are easy to replace, which suits a short-lived phishing campaign. It is served from Cloudflare's network, with the address geolocated to Canada.

What to do

If you entered your recovery phrase on this site, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a new device or reset your Ledger with a fresh phrase, and move any remaining funds to it immediately, before the attacker does. If you installed software from the page, uninstall it and scan the computer. Only download Ledger Live from Ledger's official site, and never type your 24 words into any computer or phone. Defenders should block the domain, report the Pages project to Cloudflare for takedown, and warn users that genuine Ledger setup never requests a recovery phrase online.
