PhishDestroy threat report
meta-appeal-required.com is a phishing page that impersonates Meta. Its name is built around a fake demand for an "appeal," which targets owners of Facebook and Instagram accounts, pages and business profiles who fear losing access. PhishDestroy first flagged the domain on 2026-09-24. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving live content, so it remains an active threat.
Scams of this type usually start with a message claiming that an account or page has violated Meta policy and will be disabled unless the owner files an appeal. The link leads to a page styled as Meta support, which asks for login credentials and often a two-factor code, sometimes along with personal details or ID documents to make the appeal look legitimate. Once submitted, the attacker can take over the account. Hijacked business and advertising accounts are especially valuable because they can be used to run fraudulent ads or spread the same lure to the victim's contacts.
On 2026-10-03, 16 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. They included BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, G-Data, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF and CyRadar. Several of these are major commercial vendors, so the detection is not a single outlier. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL under the phishing category, which affects mail filtering for many organizations. The domain also appears in three AlienVault OTX threat pulses, and PhishDestroy carries it on its blocklist.
The domain was registered on 2026-07-29 through Cloudflare, Inc., about eight weeks before PhishDestroy detected it. It resolves to an Amazon.com, Inc. address in the United States, which places the phishing page on large, mainstream cloud infrastructure where it blends in with legitimate traffic. The free Let's Encrypt certificate means the browser padlock says nothing about whether the site is genuine.
If you entered your Facebook or Instagram login here, change that password immediately, along with any other account that shares it. Then turn on or reset two-factor authentication, preferably with an authenticator app. In your security settings, review active sessions and log out unknown devices, and check that your recovery email and phone number have not been changed. Business owners should also audit admins and payment methods in Meta Business settings. Remember that Meta does not handle appeals through standalone domains like this one. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and email gateways, use the Spamhaus DBL listing in mail filtering, and warn social media and marketing staff about appeal-themed lures.
