giftscommunity.beer impersonated Steam under the page title "Steam Gift Activation" and targeted Steam users who had been promised a free game, gift card or wallet credit. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-05. The site went offline on 2026-09-11, and its DNS was still inactive when last checked on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Steam gift lures usually reach victims through chat messages, Discord posts or comments claiming a friend has sent them a gift. The link opens a page that looks like Steam's own activation step and asks the victim to sign in to claim the item. Whatever is typed into that form goes straight to the operators, sometimes together with the Steam Guard code. With that access they can empty the inventory through trades, spend wallet funds, change the account email and resell or misuse the hijacked account.
Evidence
18 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-09-07, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Emsisoft, CRDF and alphaMountain.ai. That is broad agreement among independent vendors for a site that was only days old. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and detected the Steam brand on it. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as spam. It appears in five AlienVault OTX threat pulses and on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2026-08-28, eight days before PhishDestroy flagged it. It went dark less than a week after that, a short lifespan typical of throwaway phishing domains. It resolved to 192.162.199.140 on the FEMO IT Solutions Limited network (GB), with the server located in Germany. The free Let's Encrypt certificate gave the page a padlock, which proves nothing about who runs a site.
What to do
If you entered your Steam login here, change your Steam password at once from the official client or site, and also change the password on the linked email account. Then use "Deauthorize all other devices" and confirm that Steam Guard is still tied to your own phone. Check whether a Steam Web API key was registered under your account and revoke any key you did not create, because attackers use these to intercept trade offers. Review recent trades and purchases and contact Steam Support about anything you did not authorize. Defenders should block the domain and watch for new gift-activation lookalikes on cheap, unusual TLDs like this one.
