Overview

bitcoin-qrcode-generators.com trades on the Bitcoin name. It presents itself as a handy utility under the title "Bitcoin QR Code Generator: Create Free BTC QR with Logo" and targets merchants, donation collectors and everyday holders who want a scannable payment code. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-07. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content.

How the scam works

The page offers a harmless-sounding tool, while our classification is impersonation phishing. Fake QR generators sit at the exact point where a user hands over a bitcoin address and trusts the output. The code that comes back can encode a different address than the one typed in, and it looks identical to the eye. Anyone who prints, posts or shares that code sends incoming payments to someone else. The same kind of page can also push visitors to enter wallet details or a recovery phrase. Bitcoin transfers cannot be reversed, so every payment routed this way is lost.

Evidence

On 2026-10-19, VirusTotal showed 6 of 92 engines flagging the domain: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That count is modest, so many browsers and filters will not warn visitors yet. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as spam. AlienVault OTX links it to 4 threat pulses, which means other researchers have tied it to tracked activity.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-04 through NICENIC INTERNATIONAL GROUP CO., LIMITED. PhishDestroy detected it three days later, so the site went live very soon after purchase. It resolves to Cloudflare's network in the US, and that reverse proxy hides the true origin server. The Let's Encrypt certificate is free and issued automatically, so the browser padlock says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

Stop using any QR code this site produced. Open each one in a trusted wallet and compare the decoded address character by character with your own. If a code was posted on invoices, signs or donation pages, replace it with one generated inside your own wallet app. Never type a seed phrase or private key into any web tool. If you already did, move your funds to a new wallet immediately. Defenders should block the domain in DNS and web filters, look for it in proxy logs, and report it to Cloudflare and the registrar.
