PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

tether-gold.lol is a domain on the PhishDestroy blocklist whose name borrows the Tether Gold token brand and pairs it with the low-cost .lol extension, a combination unrelated to the token's issuer. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-03. The site went offline on 2026-09-14 and was still dead on 2026-10-19, with its DNS no longer resolving.

How the scam works

We have not assigned a specific scheme to this domain, and no page content was captured that shows what it served. The risk comes from the name: a lookalike domain built around a stablecoin or gold-backed token is a common front for fake investment dashboards, bogus token claims and wallet-connection prompts. Visitors who trust such a page can lose deposited funds, seed phrases or wallet approvals. Treat anything that appeared there as untrusted, even though the exact lure is not established.

Evidence

Four of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain on 2026-09-14: Gridinsoft, LevelBlue, PhishFort and SOCRadar. That is a small share of engines, but PhishFort focuses on crypto phishing, so its verdict carries weight for a domain built on a token name. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which means other researchers tracked it independently. Among the blocklists we checked, only PhishDestroy lists it, so most broad filters may not block it.

Infrastructure

The domain is registered through Spaceship, Inc. It stayed reachable for only about eleven days after PhishDestroy first flagged it. It went offline on the same day VirusTotal vendors flagged it, a short lifespan typical of throwaway domains. With DNS now inactive, the name is dormant but could be re-pointed if the registration remains active.

What to do

If you visited tether-gold.lol and connected a wallet, check that wallet's token approvals in a revocation tool and cancel any you do not recognize. If you typed in a seed phrase or private key, move your assets to a new wallet immediately. If you sent funds or entered account credentials, report the transfer to your exchange and change the affected passwords and 2FA. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and watch for it to come back to life under new hosting.
