strkbtc-starknet.xyz is an impersonation phishing site that borrowed the Starknet name and paired it with a "strkbtc" label to look like an official Starknet offering. It targeted Starknet users and anyone following news about Bitcoin-related activity on the network. PhishDestroy first caught it on 2026-09-23, one day after the domain was registered. The site has been offline since 2026-09-27, and on 2026-10-19 its DNS was still inactive.
How the scam works
The page carried no title beyond its own domain name, so the Starknet branding in the address was the main hook. Pages like this usually present a fake claim, bridge or staking screen and push the visitor to connect a wallet. The visitor is then asked to sign a transaction or approval that hands control of their tokens to the operator, or to type in a recovery phrase. Either way, the victim can lose assets from the connected wallet. Signed approvals can also leave tokens exposed long after the page is closed.
Evidence
On 2026-09-25, 6 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That is a low count, which is common for short-lived phishing domains. The stronger signal comes from the crypto-focused lists. MetaMask and SEAL both block the domain alongside PhishDestroy, and wallet users get warnings from those lists. Two AlienVault OTX threat pulses also reference it.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-09-22 and went live almost immediately. It was flagged within a day and went dark five days after registration. That fast use-and-discard cycle is typical of campaigns that rotate through cheap domains. It resolved to a US-based IP address, 104.21.69.72, and used a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser said nothing about whether the site was legitimate.
What to do
If you connected a wallet to this site, use a token-approval checker for Starknet and revoke any permissions you don't recognize. Check your transaction history for transfers you did not authorize. If you entered a recovery phrase, treat that wallet as compromised and move any remaining funds to a new wallet with a freshly generated phrase. Only reach Starknet resources through official channels, never through look-alike domains. Defenders should block the domain and watch for new registrations that combine "starknet" with token names such as "strkbtc".
