PhishDestroy threat report
qrcodescan.live is an impersonation phishing page built around a QR-code scanning name. Its listing on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists places it squarely among threats to crypto wallet users. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-08-17. The site has been offline since 2026-10-14 and was still dead when last checked on 2026-10-19.
Impersonation pages copy a trusted service closely enough that visitors hand over what the real service never asks for. In the wallet world, a 'scan this code' theme is a convenient lure: the victim is told to scan or connect to verify, sync or claim something. That step leads to a seed-phrase prompt, a login form or a wallet signature that gives the operator control of funds. When we checked, the page returned the title "406 Not Acceptable", a server error rather than branded content, while our classification remains impersonation phishing.
On VirusTotal, 14 of 91 engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-03. These included BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, CRDF and alphaMountain.ai, a spread of independent vendors rather than a single outlier. Spamhaus lists it in its DBL under the phishing category, which affects mail filtering as well as browsing. MetaMask and SEAL, both focused on crypto threats, block it alongside PhishDestroy, and three AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference it.
The domain was registered through NameCheap, Inc. It was hosted on the Offshore Racks S.A network in Panama, a jurisdiction and provider type often chosen by operators who expect complaints. A free Let's Encrypt certificate gave the page the browser padlock, which shows only that the connection was encrypted and says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.
If you typed a seed phrase or private key on this site, treat that wallet as compromised. Create a new wallet on a clean device and move any remaining assets immediately. If you connected a wallet and signed anything, review and revoke token approvals granted around that time with a reputable approval checker. If you entered a password, change it everywhere you reused it and turn on app-based 2FA. Defenders should block the domain and its Panamanian hosting IP at DNS and proxy level, use the Spamhaus DBL listing in mail filtering, and search logs for past visits since 2026-08-17.
