PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

start-binance.com is a phishing page posing as Binance, with a Chinese-language page title that targets Mandarin-speaking crypto traders. The "start-" prefix makes it read like an official onboarding or login entry point, but it has no connection to Binance. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-19. As of 2026-10-19 the domain still resolves but its content is unreachable, so it could be repointed and reused at any time.

How the scam works

The page title, "币安Binance | 全球领先的加密货币交易平台 - 安全·稳定·高效", translates to "Binance | the world's leading cryptocurrency trading platform: secure, stable, efficient." It copies Binance's own Chinese branding to reassure visitors that they have reached the real exchange. Pages like this usually collect account emails, passwords and one-time 2FA codes, which the operators use right away to log in and drain balances. Some versions also ask for deposits to a "verified" address or for a recovery phrase, and anything sent that way is lost.

Evidence

On 2026-09-29, 14 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, CyRadar and Chong Lua Dao. That is a solid count for a site only weeks old. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognised Binance branding on it. MetaMask and SEAL list it alongside PhishDestroy, and it appears in one AlienVault OTX threat pulse.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-08 through Chengdu West Dimension Digital Technology, and PhishDestroy detected it eleven days later. That short gap is typical of a campaign set up for quick use. It is hosted in Hong Kong on the OWGELS INTERNATIONAL network. A free Let's Encrypt certificate gives it a browser padlock, which shows the connection is encrypted, not that the site is genuine.

What to do

If you entered Binance credentials on this site, change your password from the official app straight away. Reset your 2FA, sign out all other sessions, and check for unfamiliar API keys, withdrawal addresses or device approvals. Turn on Binance's withdrawal whitelist and anti-phishing code. If you sent funds or typed a recovery phrase, move any remaining assets to a new wallet and report the incident to Binance support. Security teams should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and watch for similar "start-" or "login-" Binance lookalikes.

How do phishing scams typically work?
