Overview

safepae.xyz is a fake cryptocurrency exchange that borrows the name of CME Group, the well-known derivatives marketplace operator. It presents itself as a decentralized trading platform with low fees and high liquidity, and it targets crypto traders and investors looking for a trustworthy venue. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-09-11, one day after the domain was registered. The site has been offline since 2026-09-13, and its DNS was still inactive at the last check on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The page title, "CME Group: A decentralized trading platform with low fees and high liquidity," pairs a respected financial brand with the vocabulary of crypto trading to build instant credibility. Fake exchanges of this kind usually invite visitors to register, deposit cryptocurrency, and watch a dashboard that shows rising balances or profitable trades. Those numbers are fabricated. When users try to withdraw, the platform invents fees, taxes or verification steps, or simply blocks the account. Victims lose everything they deposited, along with any personal or identity details they submitted during sign-up.

Evidence

On 2026-09-13, VirusTotal showed 9 of 89 engines flagging the domain, including alphaMountain.ai, Chong Lua Dao, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That is a modest detection rate, but the classification is also supported by three blocklists: PhishDestroy, MetaMask and SEAL. The MetaMask and SEAL listings mean wallet users and crypto security teams were warned independently.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-10 through Dynadot Inc. It was served through Cloudflare, Inc. at an address geolocated to Canada, which hides the actual origin server. Its TLS certificate came from Let's Encrypt (YE1). Free, automated certificates like this one let a scam site display the padlock icon within minutes of going live.

If you deposited funds on safepae.xyz, stop sending money and ignore any request for a "release fee" or tax to unlock withdrawals, because these are part of the scam.
