Overview

rpcsync-protocol.online was an impersonation phishing site whose name borrows the vocabulary of blockchain infrastructure, "RPC", "sync" and "protocol", to look like a legitimate web3 utility. Its audience was crypto wallet holders who might believe their wallet needed syncing, fixing or reconnecting. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-12. The site has been offline since 2026-09-08, and its DNS was still inactive when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Pages built around fake RPC or wallet-sync themes usually claim that a node, token balance or transaction is stuck and needs a "sync" or "rectification" to fix it. The victim is then asked to connect a wallet and sign a request, or to type in a seed phrase to "restore" access. Signing hands the operator token approvals or transfers. Entering a recovery phrase gives them full control of the wallet. Either way the funds can be swept within minutes, and on-chain transfers cannot be reversed.

Evidence

Seven of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-08-22: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, ESET, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky and SOCRadar. That count is modest, but the mix of major antivirus vendors and threat-intel feeds points to independent confirmation rather than one outlier. ScamSniffer, a feed focused specifically on web3 wallet phishing, lists it alongside PhishDestroy. Spamhaus carries it in its domain blocklist as spam, and the domain appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Global Domain Group LLC on 2026-03-20, roughly five months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap suggests it was either held in reserve or ran quietly before drawing attention. It resolved to an address announced by the NEW DHAKA HARDWARE network, a Bangladesh-registered AS, though the IP geolocates to the US. It used a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser said nothing about whether the site was legitimate.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to this site, open a token-approval checker and revoke every allowance you do not recognise, then move remaining assets to a fresh wallet. If you typed in a seed phrase, treat that wallet as fully compromised: create a new wallet with a new phrase and transfer everything out immediately. Remember that no genuine wallet ever needs to be "synced" through a third-party website. Security teams should block the domain and its hosting IP and check logs for any wallet-connection traffic to it between 2026-08-12 and 2026-09-08.
